Luxury Bath & Spa at K9 Resort & SpaLuxury Bath & Spa

A Luxury Bath & Spa at K9 Resort & Spa is much more than just a dog bath. Teeth brushing, anal gland expression, nail grinding, ear cleaning, double shampoo, coat conditioning with brushed blow-dry are ALL INCLUDED in this amazing doggie bathing experience.

At K9 Resort & Spa, we call our every-breed grooming package the Luxury Spa. The luxury spa does not include any fur trimming, but it does include just about everything else that you can do with a dog at a spa. If you purchase the Luxury Spa for your dog, here's what you can expect: First of all, we start by trimming the nails. When we trim your dog's nails, we will normally grind them with a Dremel type grinder. This allows us to look closely at the quick and not clip the nails to short. Exposing the quick causes pain and sometimes bleeding, so we very much like to avoid that! However, if the nails are extra long, we will often clip the nails first and then grind them after.

Click Here for more information on Luxury Bath & Spa at K9 Resort & Spa

Next, we clean inside the ears and the ear canal with a special ear cleaning solution.  We brush the teeth with doggy tooth paste and a soft-bristled tooth brush leaving your dog with kissing-fresh breath.  The next thing we will do is express the anal glands from inside.  This process is done by our Vet Assistants and if there is any issues with the glands, we will let you know.

Next, your dog is ready to be twice-washed with the shampoo of your choice.  In most cases we use a natural shampoo that is very gentle on your dog's skin and coat.  However, if your dog has special skin or fur conditions, you can choose one from a variety of professional shampoos that we offer to meet the need of your pet.  Also, please be aware that if you have a prescribed or favorite dog shampoo, you are welcome to bring it along and we will be happy to use it.  After the shampoo, we rinse and repeat.  Next we are going to use an oatmeal conditioner on your dog's coat and rinse thoroughly.  Finally, we brush your dog's coat and dry him or her fur thoroughly.

Complete Deshedding Grooming Services at K9 Resort & Spa
Complete Deshedding

At K9 Resort & Spa, we believe our deshedding will reduce the amount of shedding by as much as 80%.  When we deshed a dog, we do much more than just use a furminator.  The entire deshedding process will add anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes to the normal dog grooming due to our multi step process.
gold bookonline

Or Click Here for more information on Deshedding at K9 Resort & Spa

Complete deshedding includes the following:

  • First, we furminate the dog with a furminator and special fur rake.  This process takes 20 to 40 minutes, depending upon the size of the dog.

  • Once that is done, we bathe the dog in a specially enriched deshedding dog shampoo.

  • We then use a special blower to blow the deshedding shampoo into the fur.

  • Then, we rinse.

  • After the first rinse, we again use the deshedding shampoo.

  • Once again, we blow the deshedding shampoo into the fur.

  • We rinse again.

  • Now we apply a deshedding solution and massage the solution into the fur, allowing it to be absorbed into the fur.

  • We let the deshedding solution saturate for 10 minutes.

  • We rinse again.

  • Then, we condition the fur with a special fur conditioner.

  • Another rinse.

  • Blow dry while brushing.

This is a time-consuming process but can reduce shedding by as much as 80% from what our clients tell us.

As we know, similar to humans, all dogs shed to greater or lesser degrees.  So, deshedding a dog will not eliminate shedding all together.  However, the process not only takes off the loose fur, but also revitalizes the fur that is left.  The tandem process work together to keep much more of the fur on the dog and off of your floor!

Of course, the other benefit is that the dog feels lighter and cooler.  As you can see from some of these pictures, the amount of fur taken off the dog is pretty amazing.  And, this is not fur that was trimmed with scissors or clippers; this is fur that was loose and just removed from the coat.  I suppose it is a lot like taking off a sweater when it is hot outside...you know how much better you feel?

Puppy Cut Grooming at K9 Resort & SpaPuppy Cut (Full Groom)

The Puppy Cut at K9 Resort & Spa is a great grooming option for many dogs. With this cut, we can make the length the same all over or adjust it to your liking.  What is a Puppy Cut?  Well, at K9 Resort & Spa, a puppy cut is quite simply the name we give to a trim that is the same length.  Certainly, as one travels from one dog groomer to the next, it is possible to become confused by the names of the various trims or cuts for dogs.  However, we simply call our puppy cut by that name because we have noticed that puppies seem to have the same length of fur all over their body.  Look at their legs, their face, feet, etc and notice that the fur is pretty much the same length over the entire body.
gold bookonline

Or Click Here for more information on a Puppy Cut at K9 Resort & Spa

At K9 Resort & Spa, our puppy cut is the name we use for our Full-Groom package and available for all dogs needing trimmed.  Sure, there are other cuts such as a Sanitary Trim, Shave Down, or Specialty Cut but the majority of what people want in a trim for their dog is what we call a Puppy Cut.

So, if we start off with the basic cut of a "puppy cut," we then ask the client some specific questions.  First of all, how long do you want the fur when we are finished?  Usually, Puppy Cuts leave anywhere from 1/2" - 1" but the client can be more specific.

Or, if the client wants their Standard Poodle to be in a Poodle-Cut then we pretty much have it, we just trim the dog in that format.  However, with a Poodle, we may still need to know if the customer wants the Poodle to have Clean Foot, Rounded Foot, or a Clean Face trim. Once we know those particulars we can go to work.

For other breeds, we still want to know a bit more information in order to properly trim the dog.  Some examples include... Does the client want a Teddy Bear Face?  Scruffy Face?  What about the tail?  How about the length of fur on the legs?  Ears?  When you ask for a Puppy Cut at K9 Resort & Spa, we then take that basic cut and adapt it to your exact specifications so that we get the dog looking exactly the way you want him or her to look.

Top your baby off with a kerchief, some bows or even nail painting and the finished product is a gorgeous looking pooch!  Of course, included the puppy cut as well as all of our trims is the Luxury Bath & Spa which includes Teeth Brushing with our special tarter-remover PlaqClnz, Ear Cleaning, Anal Glands Expressed, Nail Trimming, Twice Shampooed, Coat Conditioner, Complete Rinse,  Blow-dry with Fur Brushing!

As you can certainly see, the K9 Resort & Spa Puppy Cut is a well-spent day at the spa and your K9 companion will be so happy and afterwards.  The entire process will take generally 2 - 3 hours to accomplish depending upon the dog size and coat condition.  K9 Resort & Spa takes your cell-phone number so that you can be out and about and let us take the worry off of you as we will call you about 20 minutes before we are done.  Allowing you and your four-legged family member to relax during the entire process.

Sanitary Trim at K9 Resort & Spa
Sanitary Trim (Sanitary Cut)

At K9 Resort & Spa, a Sanitary Trim (or Sanitary Cut) consists of trimming the hair around the privates so that the dog can potty and remain clean.  Included with our Sanitary Trim is a nice trim between the paw pads.  Included in the Puppy Cut and Shave-down, the sanitary trim is an important part of most dogs' grooming. At K9 Resort & Spa, we are very careful when clipping around these sensitive areas. If your dog has hair in between the paw pads, we will either clip it with scissors so it is flush with the paw pads or shave it out with a fine-tooth short blade so that the area doesn’t collect mats.  The Sanitary Trim is often chosen when the client does not want the body fur cut but does want these important areas trimmed.

Summer Cut

At K9 Resort & Spa, a shave down is a dog grooming trim that can really cool off your pet! A shave down can be a great experience for your dog who will feel so much better on those hot days.  I say that because carrying around a lot of fur can be like wearing a winter coat in the middle of summer time; very hot!  A shave down can be just what your dog needs to be cool as a cucumber when it is hot outside.

Click Here for more information on a Shave Down at K9 Resort & Spa

Another consideration for a shave down is that the amount of shedding is reduced significantly after a shave down is done.  Of course, unhealthy fur will still fall out.  Therefore, if your dog sheds a lot it may be wise to do a deshedding session along with the shave down to rejuvenate the fur.  This terrific one-two punch will definitely cut down on the shedding substantially while keeping your dog cool.

Some dogs should not have a shave down due to their coat type.  If you have questions about this, we will be happy to guide you through the various fur types so you know which your dog has.  For dogs that shouldn't be given a shave down, another option is a deshedding session.  Deshedding is listed above and can give you much of the same result as a shave down when the objective is to reduce shedding and/or make the dog cooler in the hotter months of the year.

At K9 Resort & Spa, we classify a shave down as a cut where we leave less than 1/2" on the dog's body.  Cuts that leave 1/2", or more, are considered Puppy Cuts.  Shave down is quite simply the name we give to this type of trim. For the purpose of a shave down a #4 or #5 blade is normally used.  We at K9 Resort and Spa never recommend shave downs for double coated dogs.  Certainly as one travels from one groomer to the next it is possible to become confused by the names of the various trims or cuts for dogs.

Other dog fur cuts we offer are Puppy Cut, Sanitary Trim, or Specialty Cut.  So, depending upon your dog breed and the type of cut you prefer, K9 Resort & Spa's certified dog groomers can give your dog a marvelous look!

Depending upon your specifications, we can create a shave down where the fur we leave on the dog is about 1/8".  However, many times clients like the length of 1/4" but we will do it to your specifications.  Included with the Shave Down are Teeth Brushing with our special tarter-remover PlaqClnz, Ear Cleaning, Anal Glands Expressed, Nail Trimming, Two Shampooing Sessions, Coat Conditioner, Complete Rinse, and a Blow-dry with Fur Brushing!

As you can certainly see, the K9 Resort & Spa dog grooming shave down is a well-spent day at the spa and your K9 companion will be so happy and afterwards.  The entire process will take generally 2 - 3 1/2 hours to accomplish depending upon the dog size and coat condition.  K9 Resort & Spa takes your cell-phone number so that you can be out and about and let us take the worry off of you as we will call you about 20 minutes before we are done.  Allowing you and your four-legged family member to relax during the entire process.

Specialty Cuts

Specialty cuts are for our client that want their dog to stand out.  We offer the specialty cut so that the client can tell us exactly how to cut their dog in somewhat of an exotic way.  Specialty cuts are for clients who want their dog to be cut, for example, in a lion look-alike way.  Or, perhaps you have a poodle and you want the poodle to be trimmed in a poodle cut like those you see in dog shows.  First, we start    with the Luxury Spa.  The Luxury Spa by itself is for all breeds and does not include any fur trimming.  However, the Luxury Spa is INCLUDED in the Specialty cut and our other cut packages at no additional cost.  We start the specialty cut by trimming the nails.

Click Here for more information on a Specialty Cut at K9 Resort & Spa

Next, we clean inside the ears and the ear canal with a special ear cleaning solution.  Once this is done we brush the teeth with a doggy tooth paste.  We use this to help condition the teeth and remove tarter.  Then, we move the the tub where we can get wet.  First, we brush the teeth with a soft-bristled tooth brush leaving your dog with kissing-fresh breath.

Then, we do the cut to your specifications.  When doing a specialty cut, you should plan on your dog being with us for 2 - 4 hours depending upon the coat condition and size of the dog.

Anal Glands

We believe a dog's anal glands need to be checked from time to time.  In our view, we like to see dogs groomed about every six-weeks or so and we check the dog's anal glands at that time.  If our dog groomer finds anal gland problems in dogs then we make the client aware of the issues.

The anal glands are located on either side and just inside a dog’s anus.  In the wild, these glands serve as a method of marking the dog’s territory. When a dog defecates the glands are naturally compressed and secrete a dark, foul smelling liquid along with the bowel movement. When the sacs are functioning normally they empty whenever the animal has a bowel movement.

Click Here for more information on Anal Glands at K9 Resort & Spa

Anal gland problems in dogs occur from time to time for various reasons when the dog’s anal sacs become blocked. When this happens a number of problems can develop. Some are benign as a foul smell but the can lead to serious problems like diarrhea and infection. To intervene before a blocked anal gland becomes an issue, the glands must be expressed.

As a Dog Grooming A La Carte service at K9 Resort & Spa, we offer Anal Gland Expressing for a small fee.  Or, anal glands are expressed as an included service with all of our complete grooming services such as- Luxury Spa, Sanitary Cut, Puppy Cut, Shave Down or Specialty Cut.

Our Grooming department at K9 Resort & Spa offers anal gland inspection and will express when necessary.  This service is provided with each of our full service grooming packages at no extra charge.  We also offer anal gland express as a ala carte service.

Nail Trimming at K9 Resort & Spa
Nail Trimming

Of course we prefer that you bring your dog to us for professional dog grooming but if you need to trim dog nails yourself, just follow our video and do it properly.

If your dog has light colored nails, it is much easier to determine where the quick is in the dog nail. The quick, or end of the vein, is usually a pink triangular shape inside the dog's nail. Determining how far to cut on a light nail is easy when you can see the quick. Trimming within an acceptable range of the quick is suggested.

Click Here for more information on Your Dogs Nails at K9 Resort & Spa

What if your dog has black or dark colored nails, and you can’t see the quick? Well, this is more of a challenge. You need to take special care because if you cut the nails too short, your dog will bleed and you will have to control it with styptic powder.

In the hand opposite the clipper, push on the paw pad to expand the dog's nail. With your clipper cut very thin slices of the nail. As you trim, you will be looking for a darker arch in the inside of nail. In the middle of this arch you will see a white tip. This is the quick. You want to be sure not to cut too close. Once you begin to see the quick, stop cutting.

With frequent nail trimming, the quick will recede more and more, allowing you to cut the nails shorter each time.

Below are a couple of videos to help you trim your dog's nails. However, if you are still not comfortable trimming your dog’s nails, not to worry,We at K9 Resort & Spa are here to help!!!  Call us today.
