BAT is a relatively new training program for dogs with Fear, Frustration, and/or Aggression issues. BAT has caught on world-wide in the past few years and K9 Resort & Spa is the only facility in San Diego County utilizing this remarkable training program. The training is entirely "Positive Reinforcement" and has shown remarkable benefits for dogs and their owners. If you are concerned about taking your dog to Dog Park, Dog Beach, etc, you may be interested in this program. You can either call and set up and evaluation or come to one of our informative Evaluation Seminars by clicking on the training page or calling us directly at (760) 745-3647

Your dog must have current vaccination records on file. You will be asked to submit those documents when you attend your first Grooming, Training or Socializing appointment.
What is the referral program?
K9 Resort & Spa offers existing clients the opportunity to hand out Referral Cards to their friends with dogs. When that client brings the card in they get a $10.00 discount off of any service or product as a First Time client. Also, in our system we create a referral relationship between the Referrer and the Referee. When the Referee comes in for a service the Referrer is automatically credited a $10.00 credit into their account to be used for any service or product. K9 Resort & Spa Books
Books on dog training are a dime a dozen but Penny DiLoreto, the author of "Gonna Buy Me a Dog" and "The Potty Training Answer Book" has real-life experience as a Veterinary Assistant, Animal Behaviorist, Professional Dog Trainer, and Breeder of Boston Terriers. See how this experience can help you with your dog.
Gonna Buy Me a Dog
by Penny Diloreto
This book is a must read for individuals who are “just looking” and are not ready to commit to having a new dog or puppy in their home. However, this book is also intended for those people who already have a 4-legged friend and now want or need a little assistance. This is not another "Dog Training" handbook; in fact, it is the opposite. This is more of a "People Training" book for dogs.
The Potty Training Answer Book: People Training for Dogs
by Penny Diloreto
Potty training your new puppy is one of the most challenging tasks you and your dog will face. The “Potty Training Answer Book”; is a small sampling of my full featured book titled “Gonna Buy Me a Dog”. A must-have for people who want to start their new puppy off on the right paw--or for those who have an older 4-legged friend and now want or need a little assistance.

Computers can read PDFs, MOBI works for Kindle. Click on the photo of the book for more info.
Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT) was developed by author Grisha Stewart to rehabilitate and prevent dog reactivity. BAT looks at the function of growling, lunging, or fleeing and helps dogs learn socially acceptable behaviors that serve that same function. In a nutshell, BAT builds confidence by giving dogs a chance to learn to control their environment through peaceful means. That makes BAT very empowering to your dog or puppy, in a good way. It’s also empowering for you, as you learn how to understand your dog and help him learn to safely get along with people, dogs, and other “triggers.”
You will learn:
• How to encourage or shape a “replacement behavior” that provides your dog the same “functional reward” as reactivity.
• Why it is important to keep your dog calm in the presence of a trigger while teaching him to make good choices.
• Step-by-step instructions needed to stage BAT set-ups to work with your dog in a controlled environment.
• Practical ways to keep your dog from being pushed into a reactive state in and around your home and on walks.
• How to use BAT preventively for puppy socialization
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy: A Positive Behavioral Approach to Puppy Training
The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program will help your puppy, purebred or mixed breed, become a well-behaved and healthy member of your family and the community. Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsible Ownership are what every puppy needs in order to have a good life and this book will help you every step of the way! Puppies who graduate from S.T.A.R. classes have the foundation to be successful in the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program and succeed in more advanced activities such as obedience, agility, rally and therapy dog work.
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is about much more than teaching the basics such as sit, down and come. It includes practical information about introducing your puppy to the world, housetraining (including using a crate), health care, advice from nationally recognized breed experts, what to expect at every developmental stage and the right time to start home and group training. You'll learn how to apply the science of "applied behavior analysis" to make your training efforts more successful. This user-friendly book explains how to reinforce behaviors you like and how to avoid common mistakes including inadvertently encouraging undesirable behaviors, how to teach complex behaviors by using step-by-step techniques and how to reduce fear and anxiety in your puppy. If you and your puppy learn the twenty essential S.T.A.R. skills, you can receive a certificate and the gold S.T.A.R. medal from AKC and be well on your way to other exciting activities and a lifetime of fun!
